de Sarthe is a pioneering platform for boundary-pushing contemporary art from Asia. It has also contained an influential international presence in modern and post-war art since 1977.
de Sarthe was founded in Paris (1977), later establishing galleries in America (1981) and most recently in Hong Kong (2010) and once occupied an 8,000 sq/ft space in Beijing’s renowned art district Caochangdi (2014-2018). In 2017, the gallery opened a 10,000 sq/ft space in Hong Kong’s southside art district, Wong Chuk Hang, to expand its program of contemporary art from Asia. With the launches of robust programs including open-studio residency deSAR, the gallery took an important role in supporting and exhibiting a wide range of artists that lead the emerging Asian art scene.
de Sarthe’s spirit continues in the Hong Kong space alongside de Sarthe Advisory. Led by de Sarthe family, the entity maintains profound advisory for 19th to 20th century masterpieces and has placed important artwork with collectors across the world for nearly five decades. de Sarthe Advisory has dealt in artwork including the likes of Monet, van Gogh, Rodin; Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti; Chu Teh-Chun, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Pierre Soulages, Zao Wou-Ki; Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol; as well as Chen Zhen and Bernar Venet.
